Changing direct debit date on mortgage payment

I have a mortgage with GE Money and have requested to change my
direct debit date from the 15th of the month to the 26th.

GE say they can do it only if I pay them £400.00 which is the interest for the eleven days between the 15th and the new date.

How can they do this?

In the past with other lenders it has been possible, as long as they get their money within the month.

Any suggestions ?

I think that GE are right in the sense that the first payment after the change would include the extra days interest and then payments revert back to the normal amount.

However I would be questioning the fact that they want £400 for as an extra 11 days interest

I dont no if you can do this ,but instead off paying 11 days later can you make your payment 20 days earlier .The first month you would pay on the 15th and again on the 26th .The second payment being 20 days early for the following month . After that you continue to make payments on the 26th .
