Boots Healthcare Professional Card

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, so please bear with me. I just wondered if anyone had managed to get hold of a Boots Healthcare Professional Discount Card?

A friend of a friend has one and it offers up to 10% discount on all purchases, for those who work in healthcare. However, I cannot find any information in store or on the web about the card or how to get one?

Has anyone come across these or knows how to access them?

Thanks for your help

:D

I work in a GP surgery and we were given one of these. I have to renew it annually on 1st August or soon after at my local Boots. Some Boots stores will accept your NHS Smartcard as proof of working for NHS without needing the Professional discount card but its a hassle if the Boots assistant doesn't know about the discount. Discount is only in store (not online). I would ask to see the Manager or Pharmacist to get the card (take proof of employment with you). Alteratively ask your HR department or manager at work. Good luck. Kerry
  • Wow I didnt know this! I work in a Hospital and the GP out of hours so have various ID cards and smart cards. Is it well known in Boots and is the discount on all products or just healthcare items?

    Thanks for the tip off!

As far as I am aware the discount is off all items inc sale but not prescription charges. I have one colleague who used to use her smart card in a smaller boots store without any hassle but another tried hers in a larger boots and was met with a stone wall assistant who would not help or even ask her manager about the discount. My advice is speak to the store manager/pharmacist.

For those of you that do have them you will be able to get double discount (20%) on all Christmas 342's from the 16th of November to the 30th of November

OK, so a relative of mine, who happens to be the manager of a GP practice, had a few given to her to distribute to colleagues, she gave me one. If I show this when making a purchase, will I be questioned? will I be asked for other ID? will using it be deemed as fraudulent?

She shouldn't have, it's an abuse of the scheme by someone who should have been trusted - it's that simple.

But I'm guessing you won't have a NHS smartcard, so you won't be able to use it.

I work in an NHS hospital but we dont have smartcards in our department, just ID badges. Would I still be able to get one do you think?

You can be asked for proof of employment ( wage slip, ID card) at anytime, and if caught out I would think they will take back all the cards given to the gp practice involved

I have let it be known that I won't be attempting to use the card and that it will be returned and advise them of your comments. Thanks.

    I doubt it.

I have strong suspicion that this discount is offered to members of the primary care team only - I think the raison d'etre being prescription generation. Beyond that I'm insinuating nothing, although I'm pretty certain the reason behind this is both obvious and unethical.
