Bit confused over NI payments

I signed off from JSA and managed to get some hours tutoring per week which pays a little bit less than my JSA - £60. I just wanted to get off benefits even if it left me worse off. I also get carers allowance as I live at home with my dad who needs constant care. I spoke to the CAB about it all and they said carers allowance pays my NI contributions, however this morning I got a bill for Class 2 NI contributions for £53. This is from the time when I declared to HMRC that I was self-employed, although I haven't been self employed long enough to fill in a tax return yet. I have also declared my income to CA and I fill in a form every month to declare I am not earning over £100 a week.

So my question is, if I am working does that mean I still have to pay my own Class 2 contributions even though I get CA? I am assuming I do, but I just wanted to check before I paid something that I don't owe.

Forgot the carers allowance, regardless of anything else you get if through your self employed work you would be due to pay Class 2 contributions then these are now due. You will still get the carers allowance credit for Home reposnsiblity protection which means that period is excluded when they work out your state pension entitlement.
