Personal EU loans advice
Haven't been here for a while, in fact so long I had to register a new account.
I'm curious about what would happen if I did not pay back a loan from a Dutch bank that I have.
I am fully aware of what would happen here in the UK but not from the EU.
Basically, it is an unsecured flexible credit account issued by a bank in the Netherlands. I got it while serving in Holland with the British Forces, now I live back here in the UK.
The bank do not know my UK address, I am not subject to Dutch law so what would happen if I simply didn't pay it?
In fact, I have also held debt previously with a German bank, would this be the same outcome if I had chosen not to pay it while residing elsewhere?

Why don't you go on a world tour racking up debt in foreign lands that you never intend to repay?0

Someone I know did this while I was at AFNORTH. It took about 18 months, but they caught up with him.
They will probably start recovery via your last known whereabouts. Your detatchment, AFCENT or BALTAP depending on where you were serving.
Once contact is made your pay office will probably want to have a word with you via your Divisional Officer.
Two outcomes (the choice is yours):
1. You are sensible about the debt, and pay it off as agreed.
2. You are discharged from whatever service you serve in, as financially irresponsible.0 -
OP I feel sorry for your friends and family.0

Whoa there, easy. Didn't say I wasn't going to pay it, in fact the debt is minimal in comparison to my salary.
This was a hypothetical question that is to do with a conversation I was having with someone recently about how banks and financial institutions sometimes grant credit differently based on employment in the Armed Forces, and most importantly hoe some creditors will grant you credit because they can track you down via the Armed Forces.
My question was to simply determine the difference between law and what the military would do, as Witchfinder was saying, they contact the military to track you down.0
