Part time PAYE entitled to paid holiday?

I have just started a 15 hour a week PAYE job, received my contract yesterday which specifies the amount of days holiday I am entitled to, but not whether it is paid or not. I was assuming that it would be, however nothing has been mentioned about it.

I had two weeks holiday booked for only a few weeks after my start date, which the honoured, should I expect this to be paid to me eventually? Or take it as two weeks unpaid? I am not sure and as it is such a small business I feel it would be a very awkward conversation to have in work as I don't want to come across as being greedy, I just want to know where I stand with holidays.

Thanks

Everyone is entitled to paid holidays, the minimum for full time workers is 28 days and you will be therefore entitled to the pro-rata equivalent. Whether you are paid in anticipation of being entitled or it will be unpaid is up to the company.

  • If it is unpaid, would my holiday entitlement remain?

    Yes it would.

  • Ok, thanks. I will have to have a chat and see what they are planning on doing, as she told me I had 2 1/5 hours remaining from my holiday after my two weeks off, and as their holiday runs April to April and I started in September, they have obviously decided to use my holiday entitlement for the time off, so I'm assuming they should be paying it at some point.

If you work regular hours (15 ?) per week then the easy way to look at it is that you get 5.6 of your 15 hour weeks as holiday.

In round figures people accrue one week's holiday for every ten weeks worked (actually 9.29 weeks).
