fondant figure disaster

i thought i would make a fondant girl figure in the likeness of my gd. looked at some tutorials and got the general idea but went really wrong. I made a body and some legs (this part was maybe 3" high. i pushed some cocktail sticks in to help keep upright, all looked ok but when i put the head on the body sort of squished and the legs got very short! obviously it was a weight issue but no idea how to correct. I thought about doing the body and legs and letting it harden then doing the rest? maybe it was just too big and too heavy? any suggestions gratefully taken! - i ate most of it now feeling a bit sick!

What fondant are you using.
Not all fondants / sugar pastes are good for everything.
It would have been cool if you could add a picture, so i could have had a look.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0 -
hi there, it was just the normal stuff you get in the supermarket. no picture of my effort but it was supposed to be a little girl standing up0

You could try adding some gum tragacanth or tylo powder (you can buy both on Amazon or probably ebay as well as cake decorating supplies). You add some to the fondant & it allows it to dry & sort of set so you sould be able to place the top half of the body onto the legs.0
