Extended warrenties....advice please

Please can someone give me some advice I have an extended warranty for my suite it covers accidental damage and stains.

I made a claim as my suite has a cut on it and because I cant tell them how it got there it is not classed as accidental damage which is one of their 23 exclusions on the policy.

You are not going to deliberately cut it, I have had the policy for 3 years and never made a claim.

A shot in the dark, but could you just phone them up again and say that you had a momentary lapse of memory, and actally you remember that the cut occured as you were walking past with a kitchen knife (or something).

How can they prove you wrong?

Just make sure you check that whatever reason you come up with, is not one of their 23 exclusions!

I dont think this unethical as clearly you have a cut in your suite which needs to be sorted, and you have been a good customer by paying premiums for 3 years. They are just trying the classic insurance company trick of trying to wriggle out of making a payment in any way they possibly can. Play them at their own game!

Extended warranties tend not to be worth the money. We've been purchasing household goods for over 20 years and never bought one. If we added up what we would have spent, it more than pays for the repairs to my laptop, which failed 52 weeks after I'd bought it  (the only thing that failed that would have been covered).

Keep the money in a *rainy day* bank account to use for unexpected expenses such as this.

Alternatively, take out an *accidental damage* household insurance. It'll work out loads cheaper than lots of manufacturer's policies.
