Great post Tim!!!!
Hope your updates will be regular as very interesting.
Just a thought on the vodka thing, have you put a funnell into a watermelon and then just keep topping it up every so often for a day or so i think it is (saw it originally on Jamie Oliver's Naked Chef)???
All the best0 -
i've flavoured cheap vodka to make limoncello (add lemon rind and juice, leave for a month, shake gently daily, strain and add cooled sugar syrup to liquor) and to make blackberry vodka, add blackberries to bottle shake every few days for 3 months, strain and add sugar syrup if you'd prefer it even sweeter.0

This may only be available in Essex at the moment though! I was suprised to see it myself.
Hi Tim
Where abouts in Essex are you? I was wondering how easy you found it to get an allotment. (I'm in essex too!)

Allotments are easiest to get around september when leases are renewed - at least around my area (Rochford).
They are not easy to get because of the surge of people wanting them. If you go a little outside the towns villages often have overgrown allotments ready for the taking. Canewdon is an example of one of these with plenty of room. Trouble is if you're not local it can be a pain to get there.
My method is to ring as often as you can get away with it asking nicely if they've had any responses. Ask for an allotment map, go down, locate overgrown plots during the forthcoming summer and bug them about specific locations you would like. I didn't have this privilage unfortunately as there was only three plots available. I was given the best, but unfortunately the smallest (all the rest had the top soil skimmed off...)Tim0 -
