Cleaning the credit report - Bankruptcy off the record early?

Hi all,

I'm a recovering bankrupct since May 2007, and so the last ten months or so am cleaning up my credit report with the 3 main credit report agencies. Am almost there (a couple of minor things to tidy, as I've move flat and am on a different electoral roll etc) and got my new Experian report through today.

I'm a little unsure as... there's zero mention of my bankruptcy whatsoever, despite me still being within 8 or so months of having it on my record (for the 6 years). I've had 3 reports from Experian over the years that did mention it, and they know all my previous/current home addresses, yet this new one is clean.

As such I've got an almost perfect credit score. Has anyone else found that this has happened to them? Bankruptcy issues being removed from the credit history before the 6 years is up?

I would really like to apply for a full current account as soon as possible, but am hesitant in case i get rejected (haven't applied for anything in 3/4 years, so that's all clean too).

Thanks in advance!

There is something wrong somewhere, as it "should" be on there.

Whether that is some error with the info you gave to generate the report, or an error on Experian's part it's hard to say?

Regards whether a current account provider will see the same lack? Who can say?

The lender doesn't see the report you had generated. When they check your file a new version is created "on the fly" (to quote James Jones from Experian), based on the info you gave in your application.

So if there is a transient error on Experian's end, or you don't replicate the same info error in your application, or something shonky just sorts itself, then it's quite possible the lender could see the BR on their check.

  • Took a punt nonetheless, and I've been approved for a current account with Santander, which upgrades me from the basic account. Due to a change of job recently that'll probably need me to claim expenses, this is a huge relief...
  • I'm also cleaning up my credit report (discharged Aug 09) and when I first ordered it there was no sign of my BR...I updated all my previous addresses and the next day it had updated to include my BR. I then realised there were 3 accounts still listed as a debt but these were included in my BR so I'm currently getting to the bottom of these. Still, a score of over 800 i'm very pleased with!
Try checking all your previous addresses etc are up to date :)

You are mistaken Fastcash it is 6 years before any information, no matter what it is goes from your credit report.

One similar thing that's taken 6 months to clear was an entry on my record from HSBC. I owed them money as part of my bankruptcy, and after 5 years it was still listed on my Experian report as "defaulted". I queried it at the HSBC branch, and tbh I then forgot about it. Finally got a letter through apologising for the delay and that they'd told the 3 agencies to mark it settled. I sent copies of the letter to the 3 credit agencies anyway.

Now I've got the current account, I can finally sort out/pay for my credit reports online, rather than via post and postal order (my basic account is just a cash card). Time now to clear everything else up with CallCredit/Equifax.
