I hope someone can help me but I fear it is too late

I have been contacted by the above company with regard to an old credit card debt which is more than 6 years old, so old it is in my maiden name and I have been married for over 9 years.

Because of the arrogance of the man that I spoke to and the fact that I just wanted to get rid of any bad debts that I have I made a small payment on this debt. Only afterwards due to the fact that I wanted to complain about my treatment did I do a check on the company and realised who that are and what they do.

Does anyone know if there is anyway I can get this payment back and whether or not this now means that I have to pay this debt off seeing as I have acknowledged it. I feel like a real idiot.

I'm 99% certain that as you've now made a payment, the Statute of Limitation no longer applies, so they can chase you for the whole debt.

Unfortuately, this is how companies like this operate. They buy statute barred debt for pence in the pound and then only need to 'get lucky' with a couple of people admitting to it to make a healthy profit.
