Many thanks for the replies.
Going to pay the charge first as I don't want to delay the completion date for the mortgage.
But I will try and get the money (or at least part of it) back.
Will update once I start the process0 -
OK, before I make myself look like a right tit. I have read and re read the terms and conditions. The only thing I was sent was the application/agreement with the t&c's on the back. I have a signed copy of this and a blank copy.
I have read it 3 times and there is no mention of a discharge fee.
Am I reading the right things. it's all I have, and all that GE sent to me.0 -
If they did not advise you of this when you took out the loan then they can't impose it on you now - go ahead with your complaint.0

Another question.
Even though this is a secured loan and not a mortgage, and the amount borrowed is only £10k and is regulated by the CCA 1974. Is it still possible to use the FSA statement as the basis for the complaint.0 -
Sorry I am not aware of what the FSA statement said.
I think any loan where lenders try to force charges on after you taken out the loan are unfair and IMO you should use this as the basis of your complaint, and show them that you have been to Land Registry website to check charges etc.0
