Can't believe my luck!!

I found an apartment to rent in August(self catering) in Nice for a whole month for only £535! Everywhere else charges a hell of a lot more than this. Other people have stayed and left their testimonials on the website so It's genuine. So what I now need to know is:

Is Nice a suitable place to go for an adult with 2 children i.e. (I always thought this area was expensive). Secondly, I would be near the promenande des anglais - is that quite far from the airport? Lastly, do you think it would be a good place to go for someone wanting to practice their French, in other words, is it too 'touristy'.

Any help gratefully received

Nice can be as cheap or expensive as you make it .

Local buses and trains are very cheap, bus passes can be bought at the airport near exit , weekly are cheap not sure if they do monthly ones but very likely.

Local markets and supermarkets are good value if you are going to cook yourself, also most large supermarkets have a cafe where a filling meal of the day is a fraction of restarant prices .

Promenade de anglais is the main road from Airport to Seaport and can be walked from one end to the other in about an hour , no cars but watch out for kamikaze bikers and rollerbladers .

Nice is a working city but very handy for Monte Carlo, Juan la pins and Cannes ( local train ) beach is long and clean but mostly shingle .

The old town at night is worth a visit but watch out for beggars and new age hippy types .

Locals will be happy if you practise your french but most people under 30 speak some if not fluent english.

The park on the hill at the northern end of the promenade is worth a visit but is a steep ascent .

    Enjoy !

    Hi Mukaki

Nice one!! Would you mind sharing where you got this?
I stayed in Nice two years ago - in a hotel just off the Promenade de Anglais. It has a lovely popular beach and you always get the weather there!

This area is quite expensive in the restaurants/cafes, but if you look around you should eat where the French do - it tends to be cheaper. EG - On our first night we ended up in a place with only French speakers and got four courses each for a ridiculously low price - so its an ideal place to practice your French. Go into the back streets - they are unbelievably impressive - there a hidden gem around every corner.

The kids may get bored after a while - it is a city after all - but the beach is wonderful.

Its not too far from the airport - i cant remember it being a long journey.

Finally, enjoy your holiday - I am very jealous!

The beach is pebbled not sandy, you'd have to get buses or the train to get to sandy beaches.

Thanks for your help, some useful info there!
  • Well done you ! Ville France is about 2 miles from Nice and has a lovely wee sandy beach with waves which the kids would love. Antibes is lovely and has a nice local market and quaint streets, also a nice sandy beach. The Negresco Hotel on the seafront in Nice has the most amazingly decorated Ice Cream Parlour with real carousel horses, I am sure your kids would enjoy a treat there.

I hope you all have a lovely time xxx
