Bad start to the day :(

Delightful!!

Work have just lowered my wage from £8.76 per hour to £7.40 Per hour.

After the 13th week they put our wage up to £8.76 per hour from £7.21 this was like 3 months ago, now some new starters have been waiting for there increase there has been a lot of talk how it's unfair we're on more than the permanent members...

They're now claiming it was a head office mistake and C******* was pricing us at main B****** G** wages (clearly not as B****** G** employees in the Leeds office are on more) when they shouldn't have been as we're a B****** G** acquisition company which doesn't fall in line with the rest...

They made out like they were doing me a favour in not asking me for the overpayment on and they will put it down to £7.40 as of 1st November.

Thank god I finished my CV this morning, this job was made bearable by getting a lift in and the wage only.

I'm guessing there is nothing I can do about this being agency staff? I was never even going to stay here and it was only ever a job to fill the gap but then the wage increase really did make it hard to leave and bearable.

    6 months :(
  • Bit irrelevant if you're agency staff, anyway, as presumably the agency are your employer, not the company?
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

How's it irrelevant though, I'm still 3k out of pocket.

You will always get that as an agency worker, i did. But then if the employer didnt have staffing issues/sickness/poor management they wouldnt be asking an agency to come in and help them so might be worth pointing that out to the disgruntled permanent workers. Plus the agency dont charge £8.76 or £7.40 to the employer. Its more along the lines of £13 an hour. You just get a cut along with the agency getting a cut of the hourly rate for their/your services. They are there to make money out of you.

I jacked it in, in the end and found a permanent job as i couldnt secure the hours i wanted. Good luck with your job hunt

It's irrelevant how long you have been at this employer, as the employer is not YOUR employer. If you have been an employee of the agency for over a year, you may have rights...........

It's irrelevant what an employment contract issued to employees of the company says, as the employer is not YOUR employer.

It's irrelevant to chase the company for the extra money, as it is probably the agency which has screwed up.

I am on about the agency not the employer.

It is however not the agency that !!!!ed up.

Wonder what the scope with negotiating with the agency is or whether they don't at all, can't see them doing it mind. Oh well, back to the drawing board. This job only had till April in it anyway.

Its worth a go. Ive been on both sides as the agency worker and from the employers side and i know how much a lot of our companys agencys charge.Ive also seen the ridiculous behaviour of local authorities at short break/care facilities who insist on agency workers when the employer is crying out for permanent staff because of a shortage. If they had a permanent staff member/s instead of relying on agency they would save themselves/taxpayer half the cost!

Their fee is usually around the £13 an hour mark for workers on just over £7 an hour so thats at least a £6 mark up per hour. But obviously thats a standard rate, most of them charge more for weekends, unsociable hours and double that again for night work.

Give it a go, try and negotiate with them and tell them your skills which make you deserve the extra wage. If not have a look around at other agencies in the area and ask them what they pay
