Any help with a loan?

  • You have got too much outstanding credit available for you to take on more debt.

A (speculative) golden rule is 50% of your salary in unsecured lending, you are already WAY over this £19,000 available.

Close down your cards or reduce the balances and then you should have a better chance of scoring a loan.

If you got a loan for £4k you would almost have your full gross annual salary available as unsecured lending and this would make any decent lender (rightly) run a mile.

I would either close the Lloyds card or ask for the limit to be reduced to £2000 or even £1000.

As somethingcorporate says, you have a lot of credit available to you, even if you aren't using it.

I say keep the Lloyds card open, rather than completely close it, as I do think it is advisable to have a back up card for real emergencies.

In the meantime make sure you pay as much of that £6k off the Barclaycard while it is at 0%.

As for a car, just get something that will last you a year or two for £500.
  • I would add to the comments above (which are true) that by having a £6k credit card debt, it tells any potential lender that even on a salary of £24k pa, you are having problems living within your means. Add this to the amount of credit available to you, and that will ring so many alarm bells that potential lenders will run a mile.
