Where to get the supplies to make wooden plaques?

Hi,

I am fancying having a go at making my own wooden plaques however have no idea where to start getting the wood supplies to make them, I know where to get paint etc to decorate them however would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction to get the wooden plaques/shapes etc.
