No I want it cheaper not to cancel

You could cancel and move to a cheaper one.

Indeed, if you call and tell them you are cancelling, you might find they can suddenly (magically :p ) offer you a better deal.
Sky called me today to offer £19 for 6 months phone and broadband, going to £29 thereafter, is that a good deal?

It's better, but not the best on offer.

    Take a look at Uswitch.
  • huzzah, she's found this page, I haven't been online today, good to see she's sort of woken up.

She's been over this evening and without crying on me again, we've found her a £4 a month contents insurance from AA and still trying to work out the mire of phone /internet deals - cheapest might be talk talk but I don't know about their service. Have also shown her the world of Top Cashback... so that's a possible 30 a month saving with a few extra pounds cash in a few months time.

She still hasn't quite understood that this process means that this dress she NEEDS for a work awards that costs 30 quid is not actually sensible. I hope I talked her round from that.

Thanks for all your replies so far. She says she's had a lightbulb, but...

Will have a look at CCCS for her but I think she's right that the FSA would come down on her hard if she goes that way.

Personally I don't really think selling the flat is the practical way forward as she'd never pass a rental credit check in a new place, and the family sacrifices that went into getting the flat in the first place. We live in London, there's not much in the DOWN of downsize in terms of price. She'd never get another mortgage anywhere, especially not London in today's climate.

I just got another PPI through for me, lovely Egg additional monies for not including the 8 per cent malarky last year. So am hopeful for her last claim to come through in the next 6 months. That £5kish would stop her going under, but that would be the last of the 'miracles' and more hard graft and less spending a fiver here, a twenty there, putting ludicrous amounts into baby shower group gifts has to literally stop immediately. She seems to work on a week to week basis, having already forgotten all the money that's gone out in the last 12 months.

    Slow progress.

MSE is great btw - I used to be 25k under now about the same up in under 3 years with a 2 year old baby and no partner. So I know she can do it somehow!!!
  • We're on t@lkt@lk and have had no problems. When I rang to get a quote I was told pay up front for the line rental to save money (works out at £9.50pcm) and then £7.25 pcm for calls (free 01,02, 0845 and 0870 numbers anytime) and broadband for 6 months then £14.50 for 6 months.

I rang them back to cancel as my previous provider offered to match and they put me through to retentions where they suddenly offered me free calls and broadband for 6 months then £7.25 for 6 months (same package as above) excluding line rental.

  • cheapest might be talk talk

According to Uswitch, Tesco is the cheapest.

They also do 30 day rolling contracts.

I totally agree about not selling the flat, even more so if it's in London! You/your sister is basically living rent free as the lodger's rent just about pays the mortgage and I assume that the £24 for gas and another £24 electric are half shares with the lodger paying another share of that? If that's the case she'd/you'd be much worse off, short and long term, And with a lump sum, (if there's any equity), to clear debts no skills on living within one's means would be acquired! I'm sure it's doable given the good salary and career prospects. Well done on finding the first savings.

Could so84 maybe post her own more acurate SOA?

One thing i would say it altho cutting things to the bone sounds good, don't overdo it. If your buying the cheapest toiletries you can and living off value noodles, sat freezing in the dark your likely to fall off the wagon. and give up quickly.

Everyone seems to to focusing on the gym, well your tied in so use it to your advantage, so everyday which will make you feel good and save electric/heating at home, and take a shower there aswell, bring your own bottle of tap water aswell.

  • i have almost always been with BT. each year i look at the offers for new customers and ask them to match them, and they do - i pay £9.99 for b/band and evening/wknd calls. i also pay up front for the line rental, approx another £10.00 a month. not the cheapest, but we have had problems with the lines before and this way it's easier to get openreach out.

not quite sure how your £3.50 allowance a day works - is that to spend at work or in sainsburys?

also, your professional subscriptions - do you claim the tax back on these? do you know you can back claim for the last 5 years, that's about £125 for you!
