Loan for home improvement

I need to borrow money for some home improvements. I'm getting a 20k grant for some of the work but need approx 5k to top this amount up to what the work will actually cost.
I got my mortgage 2 years ago with the A&L (59k) when I was on a salary of 20k. I have had a baby and I am now working part-time so I have dropped to 10k.
I have an excellent credit history and house prices have nearly doubled in NI so there is clearly a lot of equity there.
All advice welcome!

Hi,
We are also having some work done on the house and are considering putting the extra onto 0% credit cards.
We don't normally use cc much but it seems the cheapest option for us. It might be worth looking into? We have been offered £5500 and £6000 from different cc companies.
If you get any other suggestions it might help us too!

Hi if you took ur mortgage 2 yrs ago how long does it run for?? Most of them are 2 yrs so you may be able to end contract and change mortgage lenders. I done it myself a few yrs back. and my 2 yrs are up again but I am staying put for now:)
I recommend the Nationwide give them a phone:) arrange to speak with a financial advisor it wont cost you for advice. It costs £195 for their fees
Good Luck
