Have you got any Asian shops/supermarkets nearby? You could investigate those to see if there are any ingredients and things you can get him that aren't so easy to get, e.g. curry leaves and the like. Check in there and in £1/99p shops for the balti dishes as well, I'm sure I've seen them in ones near us, that is the more local type ones not the big chains like Poundland.

Also if he's very into making Indian curries, a book on curries from another culture might be good, e.g. Thai, Caribbean, African.

Got it wrong. According to google it's a Massala Dabba. A tahli is a cooked dish of several small portions of different dishes - think tapas.

Also look up bento boxes. Ithink they are the same but metal is the traditional tiffin material.

We've given/received these in the past. Ours have contained curry powders/pastes/sauces. Longlife poppadoms either the mini ones with a long date on or the boxed ones that you fry or microwave. Longlife naan breads, jars of mango chutney and raita. The metal balti dishes and I have one that you put the dips for poppadoms in too.

Quatrofromageo - lol love how you had to explain the voucher to your dad! I'm giving a few restaurant vouchers to people this year actually but think it would be wasted on my dad tbh - my mum detests food with any spice so he'd probably have to go on his tod bless
