Halloween meals, anyone doing anything special?

Thinking about next week, and unusually dh is home midweek.
we often have lots of Italian speciality foods for this time of year...bread of the dead (my fab) and dh's prefers bones of the dead, both delicious biscuits.

But it's just the two of us (which is less common these days) and I fancy doing something simple but special.

I am leaning to wards squid ink pasta as I have loads of squid ink in, I could even make black pasta, but tbh, not sure I will bother as its so messy!

Then a pumpkin cheesecake.

No starter planned, but apples seem pretty important to include so I thought maybe apples and cheese instead of a starter.

not quite decided on anything yet though.

Is anyone else marking Halloween/ Samhain on there supper table?

I always make Colcannon on Halloween. I dont think I have ever eaten anything else for dinner on that day. My family has always made it plus they put 5p pieces in it for the children as whoever finds it will be safe from the witches! Naturally they ALL find a 5p piece x
Your meal ideas sound lovely but my lot would revolt if there was no colcannon.

This coming weekend we have guests staying, so one of the days I will be serving a butternut squash and sweet potato soup. If you have any spare pumpkin flesh you could use that in a similar soup. Colcannon is also on the menu, being apparently a traditional Samhain dish.
I think anything warming with a hint of spice would be ok - sticky toffee pudding using ginger cake as the base is lovely!

We often have pumpkin soup (I make a very good often requested by visitors pumkin soup) so I have deliberately left it off the menu for a change, as it's just us I thought we would have something different.

I think turnips came before pumpkins in the British isles as the traditional veg? But that all harvest veg were probably 'original' features of the festival, because....it makes common sense they wou
