Updating Credit Reference Records

Hi

I've now paid-off an outstanding debt to a credit reference agency following their offer which reduced the outstanding amount. The offer stated that all records would be updated to show that the debt has been settled. However, they're now telling me that it is the rersponsibility of the original lender to update my credit reference records. Is this correct please?

Grateful for any clarification on this!

Thanks

On your credit file is the debt in the name of the original creditor or the debt collector?
Do you know if the debt was still owned by the original creditor, or if it had been sold to the debt collector?

You say 'they are now telling me....' Did you chase because it had not been updated yet? was this by phone or in writing? how long ago did you pay?
What exactly are they saying? That it won't be updated at all?, or that its the original lender who will update it and they cannot control how quick it is updated?

    Hi Tixy

Thanks for the reply. My original creditor (Capital One) are saying that they cant reflect the payment arrangement I have as.."the payment arrangements are with an agency (Cap Quest) and not with us directly". In relation to another account which is now settled, the debt collection agency to whom I made the full and final settlement, say that it is the responsibility of the original lender to update my credit reference files!

I'm very confused and any further clarification would be very much appreciated!

    Thanks again.
