hit by a foreign truck

A friend at work was hit on the M42 on his way to work this morning by a Romanian lorry. He is only 3rd party insurance and when he rang up his insurance company they appear to not be interested

As his car is a write off what can he do to at least get his insurance company to do something for the policy he paid for? if it was a UK lorry then I am sure they would claim off the lorry insurance so do they not have a duty regardless of where the lorry is from?

cheers all

If he's third party then the only thing he is covered for is any damage he does to other people's vehicles.

Your friend will need to claim directly off the lorry driver's insurance, or find a lawyer who is willing to track down said insurers and claim. If the lorry turns out to be uninsured you can claim from the MIB.

Do you have any details of the lorry driver's insurance company?

Who was on 3rd party - truck driver or friend?

My car is also on 3rd party. If i have an accident I expect to pay a £250 and not get paid for my car to be repaired or replaced.

As Lum has said above, since your friend only had third party cover his insurance company have no duty to help him, he needs to make his clai himself against the other driver. Maybe he should get full comp next time as its rarely any more expensive and in some cases is cheaper than third party fire and theft.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

If you were not at fault you could claim all your costs from the other party.

My car is 20+ years old - Don't think I will get that much for it any more :)

Being a Honda, and expensive in parts, also it is an USA made version for the UK market and just over 1000 were ever sold in the uk, so a right sod for second hand parts.

    Thanks though.

Its an Italian registered lorry, group fondiaria SAI may be relevant. He has given a 0039 Italian number so I have asked a native Italian speaker to ring them and find out who he needs to speak to in the UK to claim off

So a rare limited edition classic car then?

Probably want to get that on an agreed value policy.

Since you see it that way, I'll sell it to you. Rust free - you get the rust for free, once you buy the car.

To me it is just a reliable old estate car, and yes it is starting to show signs of rust.

I'm not really interested in a 20 year old Honda. I have a 20 year old Nissan (that is actually rust free) which I'm quite happy with.

But if it does come to an insurance claim, that's the angle I'd be working on.

The company you mention appears to be an Italian insurance company.Did your friend get the reg.No. or the name of the company who owns the lorry?
