Hi,
Recently after my contract ended in my last job as a nursery nurse in September, and after living off my wages for as long as possible, I signed on to claim JSA on the 11/10/12.
I am due to sign on tomorrow for the first time, I haven't recieved a letter yet to tell me my claim has been set up is this normally delayed?
However today I recieved a letter with 3 group sessions I must attend? The letter says the following:
You have been referred to the following opportunity: New u/e - Jobsearch Support (General) on 24/10/12 , I also had a letter the same but with a course date for the 26/10/12. Also a letter with the same information but attached with a leaflet about an open day about apprenticeships etc (18-24yr olds).
Please could anyone tell me if these are compulsary and anything about them, anyones experince of these courses?
Thankyou,
Emma

It is normal not to hear anything before you first go in to 'sign-on' they do it all on that first meeting, I would take those letters with you and ask them which ones are relevant for you to go to.
Saving for a year in Japan.
I need around £10,000. Help me get there! :cool:0 -
yes they are compulsory i had to do similar. & they don't send a letter out telling you your claim has been set up as it technically doesn't until you have your first sign on and you sign all the stuff they throw at you!Save, save, save, save.0

What did you have to do on the courses?
As im signing on tomorrow they said my payment will be Friday is this correct?
Thankyou0 -
Why on earth didn't you claim your JSA from the moment you became entitled to it?! Apart from the obvious fact that you give dole scroungers like me a bad name, you really have no idea how long you will be unemployed and you needed what little you had saved.
As the others said, yes they make anything they give you compulsory though some people manage to get out of them.I didn't ask to be born!0 -

Stupid things (to me as i'd done them before but that doesn't make a difference to them they can send you on the same thing 20 times if they want)
Building a CV/interview techniques/work ethic course
Nothing to worry about, and yes you get paid 3 days after signing on

Hi Emma it soundos like a session has been rebooked as the system only allows 2 appointments to be booked so I would check with your advisor tomorrow.
The group sessions are mandatory and the first one is usually to do with conditionality and what's expected of you, also things like cv and interview techniques.
In relation you the paperwork your looking at around 14 working days from your date of claim, so even if you sign on tomorrow if your claim hasn't been fully processed you won't receive your payment Friday( however once set up it will be your normal payment day) ask tomorrow if your claim is live and in payment.
Hope this makes sense, I work at the job centre too.0
