Quick advice for a confuddled pregnant brain

Just wanted to pick a few brains if that's ok.
My OH and I have been carefully plodding along, clearing debts, and learning from our mistakes.

Our first baby is due on 11th May. We have 2 cars (nothing fancy, but will need both for when i go back to work). We have been getting better at putting money aside for things, and we are due to pay for a years worth of car tax on OH's car at the end of April.

What i was wondering was - and this just goes to show how we have been thinking up ways to save money and cut back...... Should we postpone renewing his car tax?

We are both insured to drive each others car. I am currently working from home due to pregnancy, and due to go on maternity leave on 24th Apr. He currently takes my car to work, as i am not using it.

So considering his car is available until end of April in case i need to pop to the shops, and then i will be huge and not driving anywhere for a while, would you guys suggest we leave renewing the tax until we need 2 cars again, and just SORN it? He will have 7 weeks off with paternity leave and holiday, so we will be together in one car of we go anywhere with new arrival?

Does this make sense, or am i rambling like a goodun' like all pregnant women do??? :rotfl:
What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave

  • Good idea. You will have to keep it off road though. Do you have a drive? Or, could you keep it at a friends/relatives house?

Thanks guys. Yep, we have a drive and have decided to SORN it at end of month. We can always tax it if and when we need it.

Hi Snaggles - nope don't know what we are having. Wanted a surprise.
Good luck with your little girl. Have you got any names?? We are stumped for girls names :rotfl:

Picking names seems to have been the hardest part so far. Can't decide what to have for dinner half the time, let alone what to call someone for their whole life!!!!

Hi Lydia - that's a good idea, I might look into doing that myself!

Yes, we've chosen a name - Natasha Grace. I'm hoping she arrives sooner rather than later, because I'm sooooo tired from lack of sleep, so I may as well be up all night doing feeds/nappies etc.

If you've got loads of boys names but can't think of anything for a girl, maybe that's a sign? We were like that with our first - had loads of boys names but were stumped for girls names - and he was a boy. This time, we had no boys names, just girls - and it's a girl!

  • Oh we were like that, had only one boy's name but were still arguing over girls' names and we had a boy. Just as well as a girl would have been called It still the rate we were going.
  • Good idea but that means you are still paying the extra insurance in which case buy the tax and continue as normal as you will only save £100 quid or so !!!
