Leather Sofa

With a wee one due within the next 3 weeks, I am wanting to replace my old, tatty, fabric sofa with a nice new leather one.
This one caught my eye and the reviews are promising but I know nothing about leather suites. Are the ones from a catalogue just as good as DFS/Harveys etc or should they be avoided? Does anyone have this suite or know anyone who does?

MOST leather sofas are made using cheap hide these days, unless you purchase from stores like Habitat or Lara Ashley. In fact many of the high street chains use the same companies to put the sofas together. Also, these days the leather dye is sprayed on many of the popular models, so there is always a risk that the colour will wear off after a couple of years.
It makes me laugh how one retailer can charge almost double the price for the same sofa that is being sold down the road, just because it looks slightly different.0 -

I'm sure I saw a documentary once, about how cheap these sofas really are to make. There was a whistle-blower who worked for 'Land Of Leather'. He basically exposed how they would make them from the cheapest hide which was why the colour coating never lasted. Allegedly, DFS, LOL and SBC were all at it.It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it.0 -
I wouldn't buy from a catalogue or online.I think you need to be able to see something that is costing such a lot of money and that you are going to have to live with it for a long time. Also you need to sit on the sofa to test for comfort, some are very low and they vary in support. Also there is different qualities of leather.Hence I have been looking for a while for a new one and can't make up my mind.Decisions, decisions!!!!0

We got ours from Furniture Village, it was not cheap but it has remained the same colour (after cleaning!) and is still comfy a few years down the line.
One thing you have to look out for is if the back is leather too, sometimes it is not on the cheaper models.
You definitely need to try the sofas out though, some were not comfortable at all. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
