When is last day of notice period?

If your contract states a notice period of 1 calendar month and you hand in your resignation first thing on the 24th of the month, when is your last working day?

This is for a Monday - Friday 9-5 job.

I'd argue it is the 24th of the following month, if the 24th is a weekend/ bank holiday etc then it is the last working day before that

and you would be right.

It doesn't matter what time of day you hand in the notice, the notice period begins the next day - whether you are giving one week, four weeks, one month, or any other stipulated period.

Employers can use different rules in their contracts - such as a calendar month has to be from the 1st to the end of a month. In this case, if a month's notice is required, it always has to expire at the end of a month and has to be given so that a full clear month follows the delivery of the notice.
