tax and union subscriptions

Hi

I am wondering if I can claim back on my union subscription for the last 6 years? There seems to be a lot of conflicting information online, tried HMRC and the union website but cant find anything recent or an easy answer.
I am in the NASUWT which is one of the recognised professional bodies that you can claim on but I have been told that you can no longer claim, it was stopped earlier this year.
Any up to date info would be appreciated!

Yes you can claim, for 4 years not 6.

I've heard of HMR&C saying this isn't tax deductable before but it definately is.

It looks like they are still on HMRC's list of approved bodies (List3).

The are under S for school.

Thanks for the replies. I knew it was one of their approved bodies but I was unsure of if you were still able to claim. I found a letter template online to send with charges for each year, it said to include payroll number and NI number. I've done that now the question is who to send it to???? Local tax office, HMRC.....any ideas?

Should you not send it to your own tax office as shown on your pay slip?

In the interests of efficiency ( !) , HMRC have done away with writing to your tax office on your payslip.

    All queries go here :

    HM Revenue & Customs
    Pay As You Earn
    PO Box 1970
    Liverpool
    L75 1WX

    http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/contactus/view.page?record=hpkspulskxM

Where it will sit for some time before it gets dealt with.

    .

    But according to the link

You can write to HMRC by using the postal address on the most recent correspondence from us.

If you don't have recent correspondence from us then write to:

    HM Revenue & Customs
    Pay As You Earn
    PO Box 1970
    Liverpool
    L75 1WX

The most recent correspondence might show the OP's own tax office?
