ActiveSync doesn't work

My PC runs Windows ME and ActiveSync and until recently worked very well. ActiveSync sat in the system tray – greyed-out – waiting for me to dock my PDA or mobile phone. It then fired-up and synchronised with either of these devices. Everything as expected.

Now it doesn’t !

Following virus problems, I had to reformat & rebuild my hard disk. I reinstalled Windows ME from the system disks and downloaded the latest version of ActiveSync from the Microsoft website (version 3.7.1) and reinstalled it. Now I cannot get it to appear in the system tray and even when I start it up from the Start/Programs list, it doesn’t recognise any of my devices.

Any ideas from anybody ?

Many thanks in advance.

  • I usually have problems with ActiveSync when i've got Zonealarm running. Might be worth disabling any firewall you've got running (including the XP built in one) and seeing if it recognises anything
