  • What about getting one of these - they are less than £10 and you could give them all a photo reminder of the day.

Piñata – it’s getting popular, because yesterday I’ve seen a lot in different shops. If you have time you could easily make one of your own from old cereal boxes and tissue paper. How about the one in shape of the pirate flag? (I’ve seen one in shape of pirate hat).
  • What about getting something like this cardboard pirate ship, some paint etc and they can decorate it (ask parents to send the little ones with a smock or in clothes that paint won't hurt!)

just noticed that the one on the link is quite small - I've seen similar things that are a lot bigger (big enough for the kids to get in etc) or if you have access to enough cardboard you could make your own?

Modelling balloons (you will need a balloon pump)- you need to blow quite a few up in advance and make them into swords, dogs or simple animals (there are tutorials on you tube)- just keep it simple with swords or dogs - only 1 balloon each

You can get a bag of balloons with a pump for about a fiver and the balloons will last a couple of parties - unless you go mad.

I started when my two were about that age and family and friends still ask for them at BBQ's and parties now, more than 10 years later - although the things they model them into have changed!!!

Thanks for all the great ideas guys :D just remembered my daughter can make swords and dogs from balloons (not much choice, but they are only young lol) And i'm loving the idea of making a ship they can get in and decorate!

I decided to also lay yellow and blue blankets out (sea and sand) and have a plank of wood going over the blue blanket that they have to walk across, also a game of dead parrots lol!

Thanks again and if anyone else thinks of anything, please post :D

Could they make their own eye patches? Black card and a length of elastic and they could decorate them?
