Dried fruit??

  • we had one of the cakes last year (i made it quickly at the last minute when they first went half price) and it was given good reviews (i dont like fruit cake myself so took others reviews instead). i agree it took much longer to cook than the instructions said and also it isnt very deep. I bought 2 more kits when they went to 2.50 so made those in feb and have stored them until feeding them with brandy started last month. they stored very well and im hoping they do the trick this year too.
fingers crossed for the tesco own kit to come down in price in the same way, though i can imagine they may have learnt a lesson in ordering too many from last year's reduction madness!
    Car Boot Queen!!

Clothes Golden Rule: Never pay full price unless it is an utter bargain in the first place!
Sales, boots, charity shops, ebay- why would anyone ever pay full price for anything??!

I've just bought three bags of sultanas at Mr T's, 84p a bag, buy 2 get 1 free. I don't bake with it though, I put it in my porridge :D

  • What's the main difference between the basic/cheapest range and the more expansive one? The ingredients and nutritional value and there don't seems to have much difference, and I wonder how come brands like Whitworths can price their raisin mix up to 10 times of the basic supermarket range.

Hmm.. maybe it's something to do with the fact it's a brand ? Or maybe they use a better quality of raisin etc ??

My mother bakes a lot so I let her have the rest of the dried fruit after she made the Christmas puddings for us and she said that the organic stuff I got (Waitrose and Holland & Barrett) is far better than the normal stuff she gets in Sainsbury's.
