Help! What can I use instead of red wine vinegar??

I've been browsing this forum all morning, looking for new low cost meal ideas and have shopped accordingly.. So thank you for that as I've saved a fortune!!

I want to cook this... http://www.waitrose.com/home/recipes/recipe_directory/b/braised_red_cabbage_with_apple.html but I have no red wine vinegar and the shops have just closed!!!
Can I substitute with just red wine? Or anything else??
Thank you xxx

  • I'ed drink some of the wine first;) then use some instead of the vineger... is the vineger inthere to add some sourness? if so maybe a drop of white?

I have made this many times without the red wine vinegar. you can add just wine and a splash of whatever vinegar you have, but personally I just drink the wine and add whatever vinegar I have, its delicious just the same, enjoy.

second the suggestion just use some red wine and liven it up with a dash or two of whatever vinegar you have to hand or cider vinegar is really nice with red cabbage and apples!
