Hi everyone :hello:
I'm a very new DFW to this site, and while I don't know a great deal about money saving, I do know why I am in this mess.
Both of my parents (divorced when I was 10) were terrible with money, spent it the second they had it and sadly never had anything to show for it - both were alcoholics and smokers, had no savings and did not own their homes. Their primary interest was where the next bottle was coming from, their next was who can they borrow from, and finally who they could get to feed their kids.
In light of this reality, I've never been a drinker or smoker, and my Children are my world, and yet I detect I'm heading down a similar financial route. We do own our home (although we are in arrears at the mo) and have more debt than I feel we can manage.
I'm sure there are people in a similar situation that have sorted things out, and I want you guys to know I will be looking to you for inspiration, motivation and above all the guidance and example I sadly was not provided with throughout my growing up. :A
Thanks in advance of your future help.xxxxx

Hi KB, and a very warm welcome to DFW.
It certainly looks as if you are recognising your problem before it gets too big to handle, and you will get lots of help and advice here.
Why not start the ball rolling by posting your SOA (Statement of Affairs) listing income, expenditure and debts, so we know how best to advise you.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hi KellsBells
Have you posted an SOA yet? If not there's a template here
If you haven't already it's usually a good idea so start a spending diary so you can see where every penny goes.
Good Luck0 -
Hi! Welcome to DFW! Your best bet would be to post a Statement of Affairs ( see sticky for new posters at the top of the board). This will help people to give you the best advice on your situation and also will help you feel a bit more in control when you have got everything in black and white.
More people will be along soon to offer advice.0 -
Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! on finding this site its fab,
Secondly I think it's great that you have actually reached your "lightbulb" moment, I think that it is one of the hardest steps admitting you are in financial difficulty .... it takes guts!
I wish you all the best in dealing with your problems and hope you become as addicted to this site as so many of us are now!
There are some truly inspirational stories and people on here who will help you stay focused and motivated.
Good Luck and God Bless
Kind Regards

I do agree, this site is rather wonderful and addictive!!
I will be posting my SOA probably later this evening, and it will be VERY interesting to see where all my blasted wages go once they've been paid in!!
Everyone has been so welcoming and friendly on here, it's hard not to fall in love with the site!!DFW #414, MoneySaver, Income Booster
