  • Banks have a very bad reputation atm - it's not just scandals such as rate fixing, product misselling or reckless trading, it's also things like rude, badly trained staff, low quality service due to general incompetence etc. I can't see things improving if they were to recruit people such as you who cannot manage their own finances let alone help others with theirs.

By all means everyone here will be happy to help you deal with your current debt situation, but if you want employment advice, I'd think about applying to a different sector if I were you.

How rude, there was absolutely no need to be so unkind, maybe you should take another look at your signature and absorb what it says.

Lilly I am sure if they do a credit check you would be informed of the outcome and maybe given the opportunity to explain, but if not then I am not sure what to suggest, is there anyone you know who works there, that could maybe help out with a personal reference?

boris allen if i was to work in a bank call centre i would be reading information of a screen i would at no point in time be given them personal financial information based on my thoughts or my past i would be given them information that i will have been trained to give them

i freely admit my bad credit past i was 18 stupid and as the years went on became a single parent had to give up my job due to medical reasons and things spiraled from there, atleast im doing everything in my power to try fix the mistakes ive made

Aaaarrrgggghhh. What's more important here guys, giving people constructive advice, or making them feel better even if it involves lying?

I don't know if defaults count against you for a job in a bank. Bankruptcy certainly does.

However, if anyone in arrears was barred from employment in the finance industry there would be virtually nobody working there.

You need to know if a customer service role in a call centre requires Approved Person status.

You could ring HR at a bank that you have seen an advert for and ask them before you apply. I have seen others that have had good advice by doing this.

Lastly, I found this on the FSA website.
Can an individual be approved if they have an adverse credit rating, have been made bankrupt, or have a criminal record?

There is nothing that would automatically preclude an individual from becoming an approved person. Every application is judged on a case-by-case basis on its own merits.

i dont want anybody to lie to me i was simply asking would they do a full credit check or i have heard other people talking about another search cant remember what its called but think it only shows if you have had ccjs or been made bankrupt but i wasnt really sure hence why i asked

thanks Lensman for advice and link phoning the job its self just to ask is prob the best solution, i know i have none ccjs and ive never been made bankrupt
  • My ex worked for a building society for 3yrs just like banks they do a regular credit check he had just started getting into debt and they took him to one side and questioned his ability to do his job and even asked would he steal from them!!!! Needless to say he took a job elsewhere within the month, unfair as he loved it there but not worth the attitudes.
I highly doubt you would get the job with your history unless they give you the option to explain the circumstances. Good luck and if you go for it let us know the outcome :D
