Cheese Warning

Remember when cheese was sold in packs of 400g and then, all of a sudden, some of them were only 350g? Just got back from Sainsburys where some of the packs are now down to 320g!

Be careful out there, especially if trying to compare "like with like".
Can I help?

We actually stopped shopping at Sainsburys yesterday because the prices (we feel) are getting ridiculous. Went to ASDA instead and when compared on their website saved £7.89 against the comparable shop with Sainsburys. Went into Sainsburys as well as we like their cooked meats and compared the prices of our other items from ASDA and found that they could not be compared like for like due to the sizes however on the whole ASDA was cheaper on all of the products. Our local Sainsburys was dead for a Saturday. It's a real shame as we love our local store but when I'm saving a tenner on my shopping bill there's no way I'm going to keep shopping there.
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

We normally go to Asda as well. However, didn't need a full shop yesterday so popped into Sainsbury's as it's closer. But yes, it continues to be much more expensive than Asda or Morrisons.

I used to look at the shelf edge labels which give the price per kilogram but, like you rdwarr, I don't bother any more.

I always compare price per kilo, and when it comes to extra mature cheddar we buy a 1kg block for £5 from Farmfoods. I haven't found anywhere that's cheaper for decent strong cheese, but I'm open to suggestions :)

My £45 shop yesterday on foot to local shops would've cost me £56 in Tesco, £57 in Asda and a whopping £63 in Sainsburys. It didn't take any longer than if we had driven to a supermarket, we got some exercise, and it got DH away from his laptop ;)

I've just priced up a probable online order with mysupermarket - £110 Asda, £130 Tesco, £140 Sainsburys, but I reckon I can shave a good £20-25 off even the Asda price by doing the local shop thing again.

I thought this thread was going to be about a cheese product recall!

I find Tesco can sometimes be just as expensive as Sainsburys. I don't tend to buy that much prepared food, which is what Tesco and Asda have a lot of their offers on.

I usually only buy cheese when it's on offer anyway! There's always one brand that's on offer, either BOGOF or half price.

it's the same with chocolate you used to be able to get 230g for about £1.20 (Cadburys), and 450ish g for about £2.40 then they changed it so you only get 100g for £1 now you can get 200g for £2 or a 360g bar for £3.48, it's all because of profits, it's just insulting when they try to spin it's all in the name of 'health' and that people now want smaller bars, what utter BS.

Am checking out the pound shops and B&M nowadays.
Tesco and Sainsbury on the back burner.Cheese is often halfprice in Lidl. (e.g. £2.35/£2.50kg)

Me and the old dear normally buy a few kilos for about £20-£30 from the wholesalers. Chop the block down the middle and have half each. Cut off as much as you'll use in a week, then wrap the rest well and it keeps.

The last bit tends to be a bit mature when you get to it though! :D
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
