JSA Query

I recently started a claim for JSA. I have a permenant job waiting for in however due to the lenght of time the paperwork and employment checks will take they can't give me a start date. I am looking for temporary work however still have outgoings so looked into JSA to help with this. I've never claimed anything before so I'm a little new to is all!

Basically I started the claim online last Monday. I was asked to go in this Thursday to complete the claim and set up the JSA agreement etc. In this I have agreed to contact a certain amount of employers per week with over 20 steps.
What I'm slightly confused over is I've now to go sign on this coming Monday. Obviously I'm aware I need to provide proof I've been job seeking but do I have to meet the exact criteria in the agreement this time round? Basically what I've set out to do in a week, must I have achieved that from Thur- Mon this time round in order to sign on?

It's all a bit confusing to a newbie :)

  • Just fill in the form with what applications you have made. If it's less than half the number that you said you would do, apply for a couple more over the weekend and fill the form out to suit.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • I'm assuming that as you willingly signed the Jobseekers agreement on Thursday you were aware that you would have needed to provide your evidence that you've been searching for work going back to the day you started your claim for JSA. That's the position I would be taking, in any case, just to be on the safe side.

In my experience, if you write down more steps than you signed up for in a week, the advisors generally leave you alone to get on with it. Most especially if you give the firm impression that you genuinely are seeking work and are making every effort to secure it. I never had any of my job-search efforts questioned or examined but then there were an awful lot of them.
