hi, i work in a old peoples home and have done for 7 yrs.. im untrained as my previous boss was unstanding of me having 4 kids and only been able to work the hrs i work ( fri &sat nights) and having nobody to look after the kids with my husband working full time. i now have a new boss who says that i have to do my training as he will sack me if i dont and i wont have a leg to stand on, the nvq i have got to do isnt to bad because i can do that as and when. but the courses are in the wk and are just impossible for me to do. i have a 11mth old baby who would have to on the courses with me, my school run i dont get back until 9.10am. then i have to pick up my little boy at 11.30 from nursery. and have to be in he house for 3.30pm for my other 2 kids. my employer in a drunken state told me last night that i have 4 courses to do next wk all squeezed into 2 days ( tues/wed). i said that he hadnt give me any notice at all and what was i supposed to do with the kids, i just got " dont turn up and you will be sacked". surely this isnt right. he must have to give me proper notice??? if ever there is staff meetings/courses etc then there is a note pinned up to say when where time etc but there is nothing and i doubt with how drunk he was last night he wont even remember telling me. so surely i havent even had any notice of the course yet? if there is a note to go up it wont go up until after i have finished my night and go home sunday morning and as i wont be back at work until next wk end i wont see it and will not be informed by anybody. any advice will be appreciated :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

i know all the rules and regs are tighter now. We now need to do manuel handling, health and safety, fire safety and pova and first aid at least yearly or we cant work and work need to have records which are CQS . I have an nvq 2 and 2 but have moved jobs and now have to do a common indroduction folder in the 1st 12wks . We used to dio some training by cd is all you training office based0

yes thats my problem they are all courses in the work place, i wished i could do some by cd. i know i have got to do all the courses you mentioned but i think my employer is been very unreasonable with not giving any notice etc and expecting us to drop everything just like that. also ramming the courses altogether to make them all day courses, if they was spread out a few hrs here and there it would be better. im sure there mus be some notice period hes got o give us.0

So your employer was drunk in charge of a Home?
Notice given orally counts as notice and you have received notice of the training.0 -
yes he was drunk but wasnt in charge he just stops over occasionally .0

Contact the Health & Social Care department of your local FE College and ask them what is available & when. As you are in employment, you may be able to get access to ESF Workplace Learning funding to pay for it as well.0
