Off-license B2GOF scam?

Beware of misleading BOGOF and B2GOF deals. The off-licence chain called 'The Local' offer a Buy-2-get-1-free deal on most of their wines - but I bought 3 bottles of wine @ £6.99 each and was charged £17.98. When I told the assistant that he'd overcharged me, he pointed to the signs which clearly state that the price was £6.99 for one bottle, but rose to £8.99 per bottle if you wanted the B2GOF deal. I said 'I don't think that's legal' but the lad just shrugged - so I went home - with steam coming out of my ears. As it was around 5pm last Thurday evening, Trading Standards was closed for Easter, so I had to stew all weekend, but they were very interested when I rang them to let them know this morning!

Thats got to be illegal!! Cant believe they are doing that. I think you should try and get a pic of the sign if you can. Could be quite interesting to see what trading standards do about it.

I always think the 3 for 2 in Threshers/The Local (etc. in the chain) are a con anyway the single bottle prices are inflated in the first place.

What I think they say is the 3 for 2 can't be used in conjunction with any other offer and in this case they are claiming the wine you bought was on £2 off so they would only give you the 3 for 2 in the £9 price. Anyway I think it is all price trickery and won't shop at this chain.

Update - A lady from Trading Standards just called me back and said she was getting one of the enforcement team out to the shop to see for themselves and that she'd let me know how they got on.
