'Bank charge' - reclaiming ALL puniative charges?

Hi all,

The bank charge thing got me thinking - the reason the charges are illegal is that they are designed for profit, not to reflect the actual cost.

Now surely this doesn't just apply to bank charges - it could also apply to clamping fees, witheld deposits eyc. What do you think?

The reason I ask, is that due to my preganancy, the holiday we have booked at the end of the year will have to be cancelled - I'll be too far gone to fly. Now to bring the holiday forward will cost us more, plus the deposit we've already paid will be eaten up by the 'charges' for changing the flight dates etc. The brochure claims if you cancel, they keep your deposit to cover the costs incurred by them having to cancel the bookingwoth the airline etc.

Now if you asked them to prove it's cost them £300 to cancel a booking made 9 months ahead, they wouldn't be able to, so surely this comes under the same category?

I'm cnsidering writing to Thomas Cook and telling them this, especially as under these circumstances I was more than willing to still keep the holiday. As a result they've lost a £1500 booking, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this situation.
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Current Pay Off Target : £1500
