Accepted job but changed mind

Hi everyone

Just wanted a bit of advice really - or if anyone been in this situation.

I have verbally accepted a job offer, and currently waiting for all the paperwork to come through, I have not yet signed any contracts.

Today I have had a call for another job that sounds very appealing, and interview date is set. If I get this other job - can I decide to go for it if I still haven't signed the contract for the other job?
What would be the difference if I do sign the contract and then decide to go for the other job that I've had the call from today?

Thank you

Until you have signed a contract or actually started work the first job has no hold on you. Obviously it would be polite if you got the second job and decided not to take the first you let them know asap and apologise. Its not unusual for people to be doing lots of interviews when out of work, so this situation isn't that uncommon.

If you have signed a contract or started work this get sticky. Depending on the contract there would likely be a min notice period they would expect you to work and in theory they could sue for any out of pocket expenses/cover for unworked notice. But the reality is most companies don't bother as its too much hassle.

Best bet is to hold off on signing the contract whilst you find out what is happening with the second job.
