  • Hi!

I don't work as a RSW but work alongside in a totally different role!

Get yourself up to date with the regs (Children's act 1989, National Minimum Standards) and Ofsted areas (healthy eating, safer caring, education etc etc)

Have a look on the Ofsted website and look at some of the Ofsted reports on children's homes. It'll allow you to see what companies are working towards.

NVQ's in Childcare are a massive attraction for Childcare companies. They have 100's of 'regular' people apply.

Also, if you could maybe undertake some voluntary work with teenagers (youth clubs, sports events etc) it's all experience!

Show you have the ability to learn and want to learn. Attendance to regular training is vital for them.

Be confident and show them that you are ready to dedicate yourself.

Be prepared to do a CRB!

    :)
  • thanks for the reply I am allready qualified and a pvg member ,I am just hopeless at interviews so was trying to be prepared I expect questions about team work ECT but was hoping for some sample questions answers forthis type of interview so I can be better prepared
  • They will probably have you complete an IRS, along with questions about your experience and actual times where you have had to deal with missing from homes, drug use, sexualised behaviours, challenging behaviours.

Just be open to learning new things!

I work as a Residential Support Worker with young people aged 10-16, those looked after by the local authority.

From my interview, this is what i remember:

    1. What qualities (and/or) experience can you bring to this role?
    2. What do you feel are your strengths and weaknesses?
    3. What is your understanding of professional boundaries and how would you ensure they are maintained?
    4. How would you ensure you are supporting a client to minimise the risks to themselves and you?
    5. Imagine a situation when you are faced with a service user who is aggravated and distressed. How would you manage this behaviour?
    6. You will be required to complete an assessment of a client’s needs. How would you go about doing this?
    7. Give us an example of a time when you have worked in a small team, and how you personally contributed to that team.

Equality&Diversity will pop up most definitely, as will Confidentiality
    Anti-Discriminatory practice
Children's act 1989 - Just google what it relates to. That is all you need to know for now, your employer will teach you everything you need to know :D Good luck :D
