Charged by mobile company for a line i did not ask for

Hi everyone
I took out a new mobile phone contract last year. Soon after joinning i was asked if they could send me a free pay as you go sim which a friend or family member could try and then sign up with my provider if they liked it. I was never told that it would affect my bills or cost any money. I found it very difficult to log into the system which my provider uses to display bill ( no option of having them emailed and you have to pay for paper bills) so foulishly I just checked my bank debits for the first 2 months. These appeared reasonable.
I have just found out that since the 3rd month of my account I have been charged £15 a month for an additional line. I did not consent or request this. The sim I was sent was never activated or used as my husband mistoke it for junk mail and binned it. My provider are now saying they are not willing to refund the all money they have charged me and the best they will possibly offer is to refund the last 6 months of payments for the additional line. I feel totally cheated, I am very upset with myselft for not having sorted out my account to view the bills but just because someone does not realised they are being swindled I do not feel that a mobile provider should be able to trick and cheat customers out of money.
Does anyone have any advice or have you experienced anything similar. I have spoke to several friends and they have said they are also guiltly of not viewing their bills online, I know I have been foolish but I am despartely trying to get money back that was wrongfully taken to no avail.
