Competencies are scored from 1 to 5 with them rating as follows

    1) Useless
    2) Nearly Useless
    3) Average
    4) Strong
    5) Exceptional

(1 & 2 are my interpretation, but 3 to 5 ARE right) as I was reading about them today at work).

I don't think they were all out of 10. I remember a few years ago just about passing a DWP interview for AO, when I scored 14, which I think was the minimum pass mark.

You are only assuming that it was the 2 that let you down. If they were all out of 10 then all 4 let you down.

Unless the maximum was 4 of course.

Antonic, that seems to be about right. I think the Civil Service usually does score each question out of 5. When I read the comments in the feedback, they did make a comment about that last question, on which I scored just 2. The question was quite tricky, and one that I had NEVER ever come across before in all the job interviews I have had, Civil Service or otherwise. I did struggle for a few moments for an answer, but unfortunately the answer was just not appropriate for them, hence their awarding me just 2 on that score.

The succesful candidate will be selected on those who interview the best, and if not enough of them, those who come close.

You could have been really unlucky and everyone else scored 13 or higher.

Can you ask for feedback ?

    Hello

You should have some feedback there. Use it to develop the answers you give. I am feeling a bit dejected today too (for other jobs) but you have to pull yourself up.

Do you remember what the question was and what you said?

Just in case you get it again you are forewarned...
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

DWP score out of 9 with 4 being the rquired pass mark, I'm not sure if it's this way over all the civil service though

I can't imagine it's as simple as meeting a total pass mark.

If you score a 2, as someone else said, then even if you score 5s everywhere else, you may not be accepted. It's no good being great at most things but not able to deliver on one critical area. It's not about getting scores 'even' across all competencies, but meeting a min requirement for all the competencies.

So you have to meet a min score on all questions first, then hopefully be someone who scored well across all questions. The more people apply, the less chance of getting through, even if you meet the min criteria. It's standard practice in many companies.
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
