Hi, i've also been stung by this absolutely, unbelievably outrageous rule and about to lose > 1K. To say i'm furious is a total understatement.

Regarding the changeover to a cheaper destination, how do you do this if you don't have the original ticket? I presumed you could do it over the phone. After phoning Southern, they advised that i'd have to do it at the station. Well i don't have the original.

I presume you're not referring to a changeover from a duplicate ticket? Because you can't get refunds on a dup'd ticket.

Can you advise please? Would be appreciated as i'm not in the habit of donating money to these greedy phonies...

    Many thanks...

You haven't actually told us what has happened.

Have you lost your season ticket, had it replaced and now lost the replacement?

So Im guessing you have a duplicate season ticket which you now want a refund on because you may be moving or some such?

Very difficult to get one if just moving but even if you got a changeover you would not get a refund on the rest of the amount they would just end up extending the changeover for however many days the refund would cover.

Maybe create a coherent post, setting out exactly what has gone on and your issue for people to try and make a better reply to you.

    Hi, sorry.

No i've lost my original and don't have a duplicate. I'm moving overseas in a couple of weeks so there's no point getting a duplicate as for some reason its takes these imbeciles between 2 and 4 weeks to print out a new ticket. So i want to get a refund on my original which i've lost.

Sorry to be so angry about this, but everything about this is so unjust.

Any ideas how to get *MY* money back with a lost original and without a duplicate? I can go into a train station, they can bring up my record on their terminal...why so difficult?

    Thanks,

Perhaps because you'll be asking for a ~£2k refund without actually handing over a ticket?! From the train company's POV the season ticket could still be in use, so why would they refund it... AFAIK there's no national database of season tickets either.

    But it's not your money.

You used your money to buy a ticket.

Just like anything else you buy, that ticket then becomes your responsibility.

Can you imagine going back to a car salesman and saying "You know that car I bought from you a few months back, well I've lost it. Can I have my £2000 back?"

Of course if you want to sell that car back to the car salesman, he will offer a lesser amount.
Pretty much in the same way as a rail company would.

But... they both want something back for the money they are going to pay you.

Oh... and calling people imbeciles is not likely to get them on your side.

    Good Bye.

I am absolutely amazed by your comments. A car is not the same as a computer database record which has all the information on the ticket...issue date, expiry date, price paid etc - which just has to be printed. Comparing this to a car is just plain dumb to be honest. As for them not being able to trace or block a card, thats the train companies fault for under investing in their processes. A bank can block a card, why cant train companies. Is it normal for someone to walk around with £5000 of cash in their pocket on a daily basis without insurance? Well that's the same thing...let's leave this thread there cause we're obviously not on the same wavelength. As for them being imbeciles. That's exactly what they are...this is theft in my mind, whether u disagree or not...i ain't bothered. Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately not. Guess ill just have to complain to an ombudsman, whoever they are. Can someone answer my original question about the changeover ticket, or is this on a duplicate. I didn't understand the posts...thanks

To be honest, the only thing I see available to you is a duplicate. You cannot get a refund nor a changeover without your original ticket.

Speak to you TOC about this rather than some people on a forum- you may arrive at an answer a bit quicker.
