Bartering Help

Options
Hi,

I was wondering if you would be able to help me, I am looking for good tips on bartering in high street shops. I have caught the bartering bug. :j

What is the lowest you can barter for? I was in Tiso the other week looking for hiking socks and they were at £11 a pair and I needed at least three. So I got three for £33 and asked if they could do a deal for £30 but they said they couldnt as most of their money goes to the John Muir Trust and they would only consider deals if I bought alot of expensive stuff. Was this too little an amount to barter for?

Also laster year I was in Jessops looking to get a new Camera and in the magazines Jessops had a pricematch. I went in and they said they did not do it anymore. It was a recent magazine so I created a fuss and then phoned up the head office and they told me they would sort it. So I got £20 off a £500 camera.

Hope someone can help,
Thanks,
Andy

With the socks I think you could have said you were only wanting 2 pairs but would they do a deal on the 3 pairs hiding the fact you wanted 3. If there was another shop who did the same stuff nearby for a similar price I would move on and see you had more luck there.

Not heard of this Tiso before but looked at their website although they work with the John Muir Trust I can't see them mentioning donating a large amount of profits - I would have thought they would mention it if they did. I hope they are not lying and saying that it is for charity to justify high prices.

Their website says 3 for 2 on Bridgedale socks when bought with any footwear if these were the ones you bought and the offer is available in store maybe you could have found a cheap footwear item like a flip flop sandal or welly or what every they might have in the sale and got a better package deal.

Hmmm, I was thinking of trying that but the 3rd pair was for my girlfriend who was with me (she nearly died of embarassment).

I think it might have been the way I asked "Could you do them for £30?"

I have been watching too much Don't get done, get Dom. I really want to do it but I lack the courage, although I did surprise myself when I asked the question in the first place. But it feels so good to do it in a way.

Sorry to bump this back up, but I was wondering are there any good websites out there with hints and tips on bartering?

    Thanks,

    It's haggling.

Bartering is swapping one item for another.

I had been watching "dont get done get dom" on bbc1 .. and got the "haggling bug" .. i first tried my haggling skills or lack of them at comet ..i started with the opening line .."hi i want a indesit oven, hob and hood for less that £299 can u do it?".. i also used the classic .. "am loving the product not loving the price".. well after the guy laughing loudly a few times .. i managed .. £5 off the store price and a free £10 cleaning cloth ..lol

Be friendly and cheeky. Sentences like, "whats your best price" or "can you do an offer for 2" will sometimes work

You are more likely to succeed at the end of the day, if its raining, or if the goods are perishable.

When I was buying my new home cinema kit in Richer Sounds last month I got a free optical cable and then a final £10 knocked off by explaining that my girlfriend would go nuts if I spent £xxx on this stuff (blah blah) but that if he could get it down to a nice round number then it would really help me out.

"We'll not fall out over a tenner then," he said.

Good result for very little effort. Nice shop to buy from too.
