Christmas parcel to Australia - Help !

I've tried googling and have a couple of ideas but I thought I would run it past you knowledgeable people first.

Basically, my friend emigrated to Oz in the 1960's and we have always exchanged presents. It was ok when it was just her and even when she got married just one extra....but you can guess what happened. She had 3 kids so there were 5 to buy for. Now she has 5 grandchildren !

Last year she sent us a hamper and now I am trying to decide what to do. There is a company online called something like 'gifts 2 the door' and they do hampers. They do one which is all British sweets and costs about £25. Looking at it, there is not much in it for so many people so would probably have to send another similar one which will be £50.

If I sent a parcel up to 2kg, the postage is £27 so possibly get more for the same money.

If anyone has any opinions on this or if you have any different ideas that would be very helpful as I am struggling a bit at the moment. It has to be something that will be for all the adults and the kids.

I am going over next year so can take things then but for this Christmas I'm at a bit of a loss.

I just had a quick look online, and found a company in Australia which stocks British sweets :

I wonder if it might be cheaper to buy from them, for them to send direct to your friend? I haven't done a price comparison on the items, but postage would probably be cheaper than international rates.

Aw how thoughtful of you. What about a photobook of you all together or something similar? If you really want to send a gift basket then what about this?

not had a proper look so sorry if its not what you're after.

I do think the best thing to do would be to find a company in australia that will send directly to your friend, infact, do amazon do this? Hmm.

edit: i dont think they do! What about making vouchers up for their local restaurant to have a meal out together on you and sending the money?

    Hi there,
I was just thinking, you say that you are going over next year...
So what about sending a mini hamper that doesnt cost too much to post, maybe put in some things like wrapped tea bags, the mini jam and marmalades that you get in hotels, even the mini marmite portions,
also proper cadburys.. loads of deals on halloween bags - the small bars.
and then add an IOU.. and take the big ones with you when you visit...

I think you can! I have a friend in queensland who sends me tim tams
and i send him marmite and yorkshire tea... we have done this for 10 years now, I think as long as not 'fresh' or 'raw' you can..

Thank yoooo. You can send things that are in original wrappings such as sweets but not anything containing fruit, dairy, meat. I once sent some pot pourri (lightweight) as part of a parcel and customs opened it and took it out.

I think I am going over around September, but I will take something for Christmas 2013 and make them promise not to open......

I have seen a beautiful Christmas music box which I am considering. It would be nice for the whole family and they can use it every year. I do like the idea of sending real cadbury's chocolate because the chocolate in Oz is not nice at all but of course it will be hot so probably melt before they get it.

Thanks everyone, I have been sending parcels for 40 (!) so I feel as if I am running out of ideas. Maybe I could do a video of us all ?

What about ordering directly through as AUS company? I am sure there are loads :0) And I don't see why you couldn't pay from over here and they ship it over there!
