1 Sky box but 2 TV's

Options
Hi all, i am hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction, my mum has asked me if it is possible to watch sky in her conservatory on her portable tv and i am unsure of the answer. At the moment she just watches it on the main tv, what i need to know is how do i wire it up and what do i need in order for her to watch in the next room. I would guess i need around 25ft of cable but not sure which one. She isnt bother about having to go into the living to turn the channel over as its only 10 ft away and she doesnt need to watch a different channel to the other tv as she os on her own. How do i go about do this?

Thanks in advance.

  • we have a video sender receiver that sends the signal from the TV downstairs to the TV in our bedroom. Lidl were doing these cheap in the past for about £20. the sender plugs in the back of your sky and the receiver in the other tv and then let infra-red do the rest.

Just run a length of aerial cable from the back of the Sky Digibox output (marked as RF2) to the 2nd TV set. If you like to remote control it you can purchase a TV Eye device for around a tenner.

On the back of the sky box you will see 2 RF points, RF1 & RF2.
You get a length of co-ax & some co-ax to TV connectors, the shop will know what you mean, there are male & female. One goes into RF2 & the other the ariel socket on the back of the portable. You can fit 2 leads as you have 2 RF sockets.
If you use RF1, thats it job done, but if you use RF2 you can in the future buy a sky eye thing & you can then control the box from the extension. I would look on ebay for one of those eye things.
  • Wow that was quick thank you everyone for your responses, i will ask her which one she wants to do, think she is after me doing it soon as the weather is pretty good and she wants to sit out in the conservatory a bit more. The infra red idea sounds good, would it be possible to do so that she could watch in her bedroom too or is this not possible, do these units plug in or do they run of the tv/sky unit?
  • the units i have have a power plug and then attach to the TV via SCART. we only have the one receiver but I'm sure you could get hold of 2 of them. I didn't want to be running a wire upstairs, hence why I bought the sender receiver....just means I have to watch whatever channel I have on downstairs but I'm sure for abit more money you can get ones that change the channel too.

The Infra red eye works off the coax lead as it's powered through the RF2 output. If you prefer not to have wires you can use the video sender mentioned in post #2 that also includes remote control.

Thats what I was saying about RF1 & RF2, you can do it to 2 TV's thats what I have, one in the bedroom so on RF2 with the eye & one in the kitchen so RF1 & I have to go to the box to change the channel.

I really would go this way rather than wireless, its simple, cheap & lasts, it will not break, play up or loose signal.

We run them out the exterior walls up the side of the house & in the room required, saves running cable all through the house. Our house is red brick & the co-ax is black so you don't notice it.
  • just did a search for "video sender receiver" on ebay :)
  • cable is def the most reliable but the sender receiver is cheap and effective
