MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
We're using a company called slow dreams. We went venue looking last month and they have some gorgeous places. It's off the beaten track but true Italy, which is exactly what we want.
The company sort all the paperwork for you so much easier. You have to go to the town hall first to make it legal although that could be different if you marry in a church.
Thanks, I'll have a look on the website0 -

Im getting married in France (well civil ceremony here....sssshhhh dont tell anyone) and a service in France (which to all our friends and family that will be 'the real ceremony'.)
We are getting married at a chateau 40 minutes from st Malo. Its easy for all our friends and family to come accross and join us, they can either come via ferry or eurotunnel.
You can sleep 34 people at the chateau and we are hiring it for a week.
We are having week long celebrations for the same cost as the average UK wedding which only lasts the day.
Brittany is absolutely beautiful,
Ill link some venues for you to see

^^ very nice of you to "lie"/mislead your family and friends into thinking that it's soooooo easy to get married in France, when in fact we all know it is not! As someone who had to put in so much effort to genuinely get married in the country despite living, working and paying taxes here, that kind of thing annoys me. Sorry, but it does.
The fact that the OP doesn't really seem to mind what location suggests that no one place is particularly important to them in Europe. They really just seem to be doing this for the novelty factor without having thought about the implications (i.e. that it's a pain to arrange and that you really risk people who are dear to you not coming!), which are often greater than you think. I only hope they realise this.0 -
Im hardly misleading anyone into thinking its easy to get married in France?? The reason that im not telling my family about the civil ceremony is they may want to come and to me and my fiance its just a formality so we are not making a big deal out of it. We would like everyone to celebrate together in France.
I cant for a minute think why it would annoy you, how strange!
I would think it is fantastic that someone found my country so beautiful they would want to have a ceremony there and bring all their friends and family for a week!
And as for the op thinking its a novelty, its their wedding!! surely they can have it where ever they like, if people cant get there then so be it. Thats the choice we had to make to have the day we wanted and as it turnS out we have over 100 people coming to France and having a holiday at the same time.0 -

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. Especially ladypike. This is perfect idea and just the kind of thing we wanted. Secret UK first option is fine with us also
Just to clarify to Angelil, the location as you said is not somewhere special to us so we can widen our choice of locations making it perfect. I would not like a wedding in the UK as it would end up disastrous with the number of people that would HAVE to be invited, this is not what i want for the special day. By going abroad we can invite just the 30 guests that mean the most to us. This helps with both costs, stress and still allows the day to be special to us both.
Thanks everyone any more suggestions please add. Thanks again x0 -

I am newly engaged and hoping to get married abroad in 2014. However due to family members health they cannot fly so we are looking to do it in france/spain. However there is very little recommendations for wedding venues in this area, can anyone advise us on destinations/price. We think we have around 30 guests (although this includes 8 children). So ideally we are looking for a package deal to take some of the stress away.
Thanks for any help/advice you can give
