Resignation Letter HELP PLEASE.

Hi All,

I haven't written a resignation letter in ages. Could you please help with the wording?

Also, I transferred offices about two weeks ago (long story). Everyone, is going to be really angry especially since I have had 4 days training in the new job.

In the letter I want to say something along the lines of "thank you for the training etc....but an opportunity has arisen that I cannot pass by".

I thought about staying but the new job I have lined up is one step up the ladder and it's a really good organisation to work for.

Have left it a bit late but I need to resign tomorrow. I can't find my contract anywhere so I'm not sure if I have to give four weeks or one months notice? Suppose I will have to write two letters and check with HR tomorrow morning before handing it in.

Another thing that's of concern is because I have only been there for a few days can they tell me to go now as there really is no point in training me further? What happens with regards to my salary then?

Thanks for your help.

Just to pick up on your last question -
I expect they would need to give you as much notice as you are required to give.
If they didn't want you to come in to work out your notice they would still need to pay you the amount you would be due during the period of your notice.
If you are not doing "real work" and only receiving training, it might be reasonable for them to ask you to do other suitable duties.

LittleVoice, I have no problem carrying out other duties in the interim. I was just a bit concerned that I would be sent on my way on not have any money. Thanks for the advice.

  • How about ....

It is with regret that I wish to inform you of my resignation. I have been offered another position that I feel provides me with greater opportunities and career development than my current role. I have enjoyed and valued my time with (insert current company name). I will of course work my notice period of (find out what it is).

I would not go into too much more than that. You want to leave on a good note incase you ever need a reference or come across them again.

    This is the one I use;

    Dear

As required by my contract of employment, I hereby give you four weeks' notice of my intention to leave my position as ........ Trainer.

I have decided that it is time to move on and I have accepted a position elsewhere. This was not an easy decision and took a lot of consideration. However, I am confident that my new role will help me move towards some of the goals I have for my career.

Please be assured that I will do all I can to assist in the smooth transfer of my responsibilities before leaving.

I wish you and ............... (company name) every good fortune and I would like to thank you for having me as part of your team.

    Yours sincerely

sweetmoneysaver, I edited the draft you wrote for me and took it into work this morning. My new boss refused to accept it....he was saying how dissappointed he was and that if he took me out to dinner would I reconsider : ). Anyway, it was half day today for me but he asked me to think about for an extra hour throughout the day. He is lovely and the office is also very nice.

He reluctantly took it in the end and I have four weeks notice to work.

Thanks to everyone for answering my post. x

they sound like a nice bunch. i will have to hand in my resignation soon as i have been offered another job to start in June. I am only required to give 1 week and will not tell them until a week before as i believe they will make things difficult for me.

good luck in the new job
