Be aware of "Favourites" when using Asda online

Hi all

First proper post so hope this is in the right place and sorry for the long post

I do my bulk shop with Asda online as its very convenient with not having a car ( also the 10% price match thing means I rarely pay delivery)

I have been doing using Asda for many years and have noticed more recently how items you have never purchased before appear in your favorites list.

For the uninitiated the favorites list is a place where all previously purchased items appear to make shopping easier.

Next to each section such as chilled/meat/fresh, Asda will make suggestions to buy, usually branded high mark up goods. These items are listed as "Asda Suggests" (This is Asdas way of advertising to you if you just keep buying the same items). These always appear at the start of each section

However of late Ive noticed that branded expensive items are popping up among my favorites. I have an extremely good memory and watch everything I buy online carefully and know full darn well ive never purchased them.

Only this week about 20 items turned up that I have never purchased.

I rang Asda to complain and they tried to say when I receive a substitute the substituted item appears incase I prefer that one instead. POPPYCOCK , again I know that Ive never ordered or received these items as I am vegetarian and sometimes meat pops up on my list..... hhhmmmm

I think this is a poor attempt by Asda to try and fool me into ordering items which are more expensive and have a higher mark up

Anyone else experienced this as I would be interested to know

Thanks

:)

I use Ocado and I have found that ordered items which were out of stock and subs are in Favourites but it's easy to edit them out. I agree that's sneaky of ASDA.

The suggestions for things you might like at Ocado are pretty good and in a separate section. When any of your favourites are on offer they show. You can make shopping lists and add item/list to trolley and items on offer in your lists are marked.

    There's a whole lot more I haven't learned yet !

Hi, yes I definately had an item added - I don't buy fruit salads but one mysteriously appeared in my ASDA favourites recently.

Also I am certain that I chose a 500ml mouthwash via MySupermarket and it went through as a 250ml mouthwash so I ended up paying more (it was hard to prove). I am not sure if the issue was with MySupermarket or ASDA for that one.
  • I've had a few 'extras' before, along with the "your item wasn't around and you said no to substitutions". But I do get rather annoyed at the '"we think you would like" additions to my favorites pages.
I suppose they have to try and get us to impulse buy somehow, they are in the money making game after all, but saying as I buy own brand porridge I might like 'Quaker oats' is a bit cheeky. yes, branded porridge might be a little nicer (tastes the same to me mind) but I'm buying own brand for a reason P.R.I.C.E!
A bit like saying "Hey, you like cats, want a pet tiger?"...well, you get my drift ;)

  • Constantly getting new 'favourites' appear on my list, things that I've definatly never bought or received as substitutes. Although I seem to get quite a few ASDA own brands rather that premium brands (ASDA frozen peas springs to mind, always get birds eye).

Today I received my order to find that I have been delivered a 3ltr bottle of vegetable oil, ordered from my favourites list - I've only ever bought it in 1ltr bottles so thought it was a substitute, checked my favourites list and low and behold it say 3ltr with no 1ltr size listed. It's not something you notice when your quickly doing a shop on your phone, you just assume the favourites list is as it should be!

Also found that even if I delete them off my favourites list the seem to come back again; I've lost count of the number of times I've deleted Aunt Bessie's gravy granules and ASDA's lemon bathroom cleaner off the list!
  • I definitely have the same problem with auto-substitute items in my favourites I never purchased. They're not marked like suggestions. If I want to buy for example my favourite unsalted butter, I have to find it manually because it's not in my favourites!

And also I can't remove items I don't longer want to buy. I've complained about this, they replied, were sweet as honey:

Thank you for your email about the favorites list on our website.

I’m sorry you’re unable to remove items from your favorites list. I can understand your concern.

I cannot confirm when the favourite’s list option will be operative again. I advise that you continue to check the website regularly as it is constantly updated.

I can assure you that we are looking into the matter and are trying to resolve it as soon as possible.

Thanks again for contacting me and if there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.

    Have a nice day.

    Kind regards

But nothing got better!!! I hate this really.

Most annoying is that one can delete favourites that one has purchased as a one-off and will not be buying ever again or any time soon but it is not possible to remove the favourites that one has never bought.

It is nothing to do with substitutions as I have always opted out of any substitutions.

When I was having deliveries from ASDA, if you bought stuff in store it didn't show up in Favourites. I had to add the details off the receipt and wait 24 hrs.

Updating an order just now I notice that in most, but not all, cases the "favourites" that are not from my previous orders are now flagged as "featured". I don't know if this is a recent change but I have not noticed it before. (I was having trouble logging in with Firefox so used IE which I rarely do so that may be relevant).
