Most GP scripts are now printed off in the surgery. A GP will type in the first few letters of the drug name and a list will come up on his/her screen. They then select which item they want and the dosage, amount to be dispensed and the duration of treatment.
It can be very easy to select the incorrect item, there may be 10 or more items under any drug name, including different strengths, different pack sizes , different brands etc etc. It can be easy to make a mistake but that doesn't excuse what happened afterwards.
Your husband's reaction to the drug may be "rare" but that is all the more reason for the GP to take notice of it, I wonder if she reported it, I'm guessing not.

PS.....don't tell the pharmacist that the doctor says that he/she made a mistake, just in case it was a pharmacist error, they may say that they "can't find it" or "no longer have it". Most pharmacists wouldn't dream of covering up an error but you never know!

If the doctor had admitted to making an honest mistake and rectified it I wouldn't be sitting here now typing this. The thing that hurts the most is the uncaring way we were treated. The doctor didn't actually tell us to p... off but that was the kind of message we got from her. Thanks for your input. Will let you know.

Ok, in terms of active ingredients, both contain the same dose of travoprost, just duotrav also has the timolol, so its unusual that your husband had the reaction to just the travatan and not the duotrav. Travatan is £9.98 trade, DuoTrav £12.54 so there's no huge difference in price.

I would suggest you see the Pharmacist and tell him about the reaction, maybe suggest he helps you fill out a Yellow Card report as an adverse reaction. Asking to see the script may be a good idea as well, but wouldn't change the fact he's had a reaction to the Travatan.

I can't comment on what drops he should have but would suggest a consultation with the GP to sort out a new prescription. Or go back to the hospital and get them to write out what he needs properly, to take to the GP.

Thank you very much. We can't understand it either. He has used the DuoTrav tonight and he is fine. I will do this as you suggest.
