Who's paying for the groomsmen's suit hire?

When my daughter got married,they paid for hire of suits,but they paid for their own shoes..

We paid for the best mans kilt. FIL, DF and DH's brother all paid their own but we didnt specify what they wear, only the best man outfit.

I personally think if you are dictating what a person wears and you have asked them to do a job at your wedding you should pay.

otherwise Don't ask them...its all matter of opinion.

Thanks for all the replies, has really given me some food for thought.

Originally when we first started planning I wasn’t too bothered about OH suggesting that the men pay for their own suits. However, when I sat down and started to think about it my thinking became that the only way we should expect them to pay for a suit was if they were wearing their own suits and they didn’t have one.

I think one of the best men said he would pay for his own as he may not turn up and the other just followed suit (excuse the pun).

I think I will stand firm on this and tell him either we pay for suit hire or they wear their own and we pay for matching shirts and ties.

My sentiments exactly. We paid for the whole bridal party's outfits. The groomsmen don't even get to keep their suits!
